Zico - "The white Pele"

When a soccer legend like the Brazilian Pele refers to someone as the closest person to ever come close to (my skill), you know you are dealing with a pretty talented soccer player.

Arthur Antunes Coimbra, also known as Zico, is now a Brazilian coach, but throughout the 70ís and 80ís was in his prime as a player.

Known as the "White Pele", he is thought to be one of the most skilled dribblers and finishers ever play the sport. He was also known as one of history's best free kick specialists. He had an incredibly powerful shot, which he had the ability to bend like crazy with extreme accuracy.

What we can learn from a number 10 player like Zico is that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. When he was younger, he was not strong at all. With a special diet and a very rigorous training program, he was able to change his body in such a way that he could be an athlete. This determination to overcome all odds served him well throughout his long career.



Zico had the fortune to play in the 1978, 1982 and 1986 World Cups. Even though Brazil did not win any trophies these years, the Brazilian team in 1982 is considered to go down in history as one of the best Brazilian teams to ever be formed. He was the 1983 Player of the Year.

After ending his playing career, Zico began to coach. He coached Japan in World Cup 2006, coached club soccer in Russia and Greece, and recently returned to Brazil to be the new Soccer Executive/Director for Flamengo.
